GUTTERS & EAVESTROUGHS

A rain gutter is a drainage system installed on the roof to direct water away from your house. There are three classifications of eavestrough. These are:
K-Style Gutters
K-style systems are the most common systems in today's modern homes. It is suitable for homes with a crown mold finish because the K-style will easily integrate with the property's design. Another unique feature of this system is that it easily fits in the fascia board trim because it has a flat back. It can withstand more damage than its counterpart, the Half-around gutter, because of more bends and folds in its design.

Pros
  • Its design makes it easy to install
  • Has a modern look
  • Durable and long-lasting
  • Affordable
Box Styles Gutters
These drainage systems are mostly installed in commercial and industrial facilities. The system is designed to accommodate large amounts of water and is not hung on the edge like traditional drainage systems. Instead, it is installed just beneath roof shingles. This system comes in different sizes depending on the size of the roof.

The bigger the roof, the bigger the system size. The standard Box style size is seven inches, followed by eight and then ten inches.

4 TYPES OF GUTTER MATERIALS AVAILABLE
Aluminum
An aluminum gutter drain is one of the most popular drains in the market today. It is easier to install, repaint, and comes in several gauge thicknesses ranging from 0.027 – 0.032. The cost of installing this system is around $2 -$3 per linear foot.
Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Affordable
  • Easy to install
  • Comes in a variety of colors
Cons
  • Prone to warping due to sudden temperature changes
Vinyl
When compared to all other drainage systems in the market, this is one of the lightest. It is easy to install and comes in a wide range of colors. Per linear foot, expect it to cost $1 -$2 to install. One main advantage of vinyl is that its color starts to fade when exposed to the sun for long periods.
Pros
  • Affordable
  • Waterproof
  • Easy to handle
Steel
Steel systems are one of the strongest drainage systems in the market. It is made of galvanized steel, meaning it can last for more than ten years without rusting. The system requires professional help to install because it is too heavy. Per linear foot, expect the cost of installation to be $8 -$10.
Pros
  • Have a curb appeal
  • Low maintenance
  • High water carrying capacity
Zinc
Drainage systems created using zinc are durable and do not require to be painted because they can develop a patina over time. One main disadvantage of zinc is that they are pricey to install, which explains why they are mostly found in high-end residences. When installing zinc, expect the cost to be $10 -$25 per linear foot.
Pros
  • Has a long life span
  • It is recyclable
3 BEST GUTTER GUARDS FOR YOUR HOME
If trees surround your property, you will spend a lot of money having the gutters cleaned, and that is why we propose you have gutter guards installed. There are three main guards that we advise our clients to consider. These are:
Screen Guards
These are the most common types of guards in the market. We advise you choose this guard if leaf problems. Though it is an effective leaf guard, it still has holes large enough to allow pine needles and seeds to pass through.

Pros
  • Easy to install
  • Inexpensive
  • Suitable for use in steel, slate, and shingle roofs
  • Fits well with old shingle roofs
Cons
  • PVC screen guards are affected by UV light
  • Can be clogged by seeds and pine needles
screen guard newly installed
Fine Mesh
When installing fine mesh, we can install it under the shingle or fasten it to both the gutter and fascia. Unlike a screen guard, the fine mesh will not allow needles and seeds to pass through. Therefore, if your system blocks because of leaves and seeds, then this is the best guard to install.

Through experience, we realized that the best mesh material is made of surgical stainless steel. This is because the window type screen is easily damaged by branches or ice.
Pros
  • Blocks both leaves and seeds
  • Increases the strength of the gutter

Cons
  • Limited color choices
  • Not widely available
Surface Tension Guards
Surface tension guards use the law of surface tension. Here, a round nose guard is installed over the drainage system, and when it rains, water will cling to the round nose and enter the system. If accompanied by leaves and other types of debris, the leaves will fall to the ground.
Pros
  • Long-lasting
  • Can withstand ice, snow, and branches

Cons
  • If not properly installed, water will drip to the ground
  • Expensive to install
